Me and my husband arrived there early since Sta. Rosa is only less than thirty minutes drive away from our place. Last year I joined the 3k route but this year I got the chance to explore Greenfield City more by doing the 10k distance. Compared to last year our second run here was more convenient since the race starts early in the morning and there were no traffic yet to stress the runners to get into the venue.

Happy to hear the good news that CRB will be running for free on the said event, I overlooked the distance giving me the impression that it was a 10K run but apparently it was a 10 miler. I haven't tried to run that long before so it gave me a tense feeling that I might not finish, unprepared and under trained. We also came late on the event which adds up to my stress. Been the last one to start minutes after the 16K gun start because I was still lining up to pee. I even run without my watch nor a walkman to keep me entertained. With sored muscles from our training day before the race it makes running my first 16K more excruciating. Didn't want to injure myself so I listened to my body and planned to do a very relaxed pace. Although there was an urge to run fast since I think I was the last one to finish my legs won't allow me, pain is all over. I was just being boosted up by my group mates whenever we saw each other along the route. There were times that I almost want to give up and just stop. I even called my husband just to let him know that I'm in pain. But then Coach Liza's advice is to walk if I can't run anymore so I just did what she said. I even imagine myself crawling just to finish. After hours under the steaming heat of the sun, finally, two more turns and it was all over. Happy and excited to reach my most awaited finish line I started to run again. Almost about to cry I saw a familiar face waiting for me to get there. She was one of my schoolmates before and also a new member of the group. I'm shy to let her see that I'm about to break out so I really hold my tears back. Fulfilled, yes! But still disappointed and honestly frustrated that I might have finished it strong if only I was well trained to go that far. :(

It was also the same event that opened up my awareness that runners don't just enjoy the benefits of this sport personally but also given the chance to help others as well. Running 3k then was a struggle, I barely run all the way to the finish line. Good thing my husband was there to join me as we both enjoy the experience of our first run.

Glad I have sticked with running for this long to regain "LIFE". Now I can really say I am happy and satisfied. Aside from having some quality time to bond with my husband in sharing the same activity, I also feel more closer to God with every distance I cover. I cannot hide the fact that without Him I am nothing for He is the only source of my strength and courage to push myself to the limits. Running is also my stress reliever from work.

The bonding and friendship formed with the passion for running was perfect. It was like we are all motivating each and everyone to stay on top of their performance. Having a real and true friends to support your passion is also one of the best reason I'm still running. Although I must admit that you cannot avoid the stage where you become tired and burned out from juggling work, personal/family life and running/trainings. I was like reducing my training from every other day to twice a week or non at all. It was sad ofcourse, but there was something inside you that missed the feeling when you get on the road and run. That is what I call FREEDOM!

CRB @ the NatGeo Earth day run 2011

Before I get to register for this run I was hesitant to do another 10K for I know I've been lacking trainings prior to the event. Not that confident though I tried my best to train for the remaining time left and registered myself. Before the race starts I was like having butterflies all over my tummy. I felt the pressure that I might not be able to finish the race making my RunNiversary a shame. Along the road I saw our running buddy Agnes which was also on the same distance as I am, I just challenged myself to follow her so she will not be out of my sight just to keep me going. I was not expecting to get a new PR but surprisingly, nearing to cross the finish line I was early by a minute from my old PR I had from ING Running 20 (my 2nd/5th 10K).

After a year of reminiscing all the struggles of training I realized that I have more space for improvement. Trainings and more trainings with a lot of patience will help me get there. Hopefully this year if God permits I will finally experience every runners dream.... @
Maie Alvarezhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15952629169926498426noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9017709583464205825.post-76736999794979665062011-04-28T23:57:00.009+08:002011-05-29T19:35:11.636+08:00Cavite Running Buddies Summer Fun 2011

But then here in Condura Skyway Marathon most of it was very challenging. I am super carefree when it comes to road races. Since it is still dark when the race begins I really have to watch out my steps. We are talking about Philippine roads here and it is not that safe with all that holes and uneven asphalts. I'd rather run slow than to finish it going home with an injured ankle.

I came to the event 1 hour earlier for the 10K assembly time since I'm with my husband who's going to run his first 21K. In my part it has an advantage and disadvantage. With less than 4 hours of sleep I can't say that I am full of energy for it. Sleep is very important for runners. Although being there early allowed me do things to prepare myself before the run and felt relaxed by not rushing to pee seconds before the gun start. By the way I have to mention my appreciation for keeping all the portalets clean specially for the girl's.

This is the second most crowded runs I have experienced although you might not notice it that much since they divided each distance by what they called waves and they have two starting points. One at the Bonifacio Global City for 42K, 5K and 3K runners and the other at Ayala Triangle for the 21K, 16K and 10K. It was indeed a well organized run. From pre-race to post race the organizing team never failed to inform runners about all the things we need to know.

So, I have seen all the 21K and 16K runners gone and now it's time for us 10K runners who are the last to start at the Ayala Triangle. I have noticed that other runners didn't follow their assigned wave, when it's my cluster's time to run there where a lot of runners blocking our way so I have to go around the side to pass through them. I suffered side stitch from start up to nearly 5K. But It didn't stop me from running although it slowed me down. I came a cross one of our new member in Cavite Running Buddies and decided to run with her for a while. It was her first 10K so I was like wanting to motivate her more to run and to lessen walking. She told me that she just wanted to experience running on the Skyway even with less training. When I reached the 7K mark I noticed my time was 3 minutes faster than my last 7K training before this race. I am not really that conscious about getting a new PR since I knew with all that uphill it's really impossible as long as I finished that's all that matters. When we reached the Kalayaan flyover I decided to go ahead of her, I ran all the way up knowing the finish line is just around the corner. With this new route and a lot to see along the way I didn't realize that I was already running that far. I am not scared anymore to run alone without my husband pacing me since 10K route felt like a short distance already after my 4th run. But I must admit I miss running with him.

And not only that, he is so generous to give another race kit to my running buddy/husband. I did mention to him in his blog that if given the chance this run will be our wedding anniversary run and it will be great to celebrate our day together doing our new found passion in running. We (my hubby and I), had so many first in this run. This is the first running event of the year that we joined, held in Alabang which is also a new place for us to run. It was our 6th year wedding anniversary and yet this is our first time celebrating it by running for change (change for the betterment of our country and for our health). We are so happy to have found running to strengthen our relationship not only as husband and wife but as best friends/running buddies. We even get to have a growing group of running friends which we named "Cavite Running buddies". To sum it all up, I am so blessed last year from all my running experiences and for this year I am so looking forward for more challenges and fun helping others in my own little way.
Maie Alvarezhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15952629169926498426noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9017709583464205825.post-75800166439239567582010-12-18T09:42:00.003+08:002010-12-18T22:35:48.869+08:00Sugod Silang post event run

Since the event venue is just in our town and we arrived early, we got the chance to join the warm-up exercise and run briefing. There are only two division category which are the 1K and 5K. I joined the 5K, the route as I said on my pre-race blog on this event was simple as you can see but half of it going back to the finish line was the hardest. I must admit it really challenged me. The cold weather helped but strong winds are difficult to handle. Did not expect much from this small and simple event but I definitely enjoyed every part of it. I was surprised that missionary couple/runner Team Logan was there. Hubby and I went to meet them personally since they are one of those who touched our lives. Even Elite runners came to join the run. I got teary eyed when students from the SPED class did a special number, I'm so bless to see them perform. Will definitely look forward for the next run to happen next year. I even got a bonus for winning a cellphone that they are giving away! How lucky is that? :) @

So, I signed up again for my 2nd 10K run, still assisted by my patient husband who’s trying to make me run faster than my last PR. Aside from achieving another personal record the run we joined supported Habitat for Humanity which will build 20 homes in celebration of their 20 years of banking here in the Philippines using the proceeds collected from the event.

There was no major uphill/downhill along the way so it was quite manageable. The only thing that slowed me down is a side stitch which happened 14 minutes after the gun start. I got carried away to start fast since there are only a few runners that I might end up last amongst the pack. So to relive the pain I slowed down to reduce the intensity of the activity and took deep breaths. Good thing the pain didn’t last that long or worst make me quit at all.

I haven't experienced any problems aside from my side stitch which made this run comfortable for me. Ofcourse I wouldn't run without my Pocari Sweat although there are enough water stations that gives water and 100 plus.

The only thing I don't like about the route is where you are running side by side with vehicles. I even run my best just to cross stop lights. There was also an instance that confused me which road to take since there are not enough markers for me to follow. Glitches are always a part of any event, as long as the runners are safe and nothing bad had happened. At the end of the run what's important is you have finished the race and you have been part of the event's cause to help build 20 homes. @
Maie Alvarezhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15952629169926498426noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9017709583464205825.post-34936959045489192612010-12-01T13:34:00.000+08:002010-12-01T13:34:04.388+08:00Running my First 10K

At first I was so hesitant to join in the 10K distance but in the end my fellow running mates convinced me to try it. Before race day came I had sore leg muscles during my midweek training so I thought of resting it until Saturday. I wasn't confident knowing I'm doing nothing to prepare myself thats why I decided to walk it off around the oval using my fitflops for about 7 loops Friday afternoon. Race day came the weather was cool and we thought it was going to rain, luckily it did not. Feeling I had the stamina to last and with my husband pacing me, it felt like we're just in Tagaytay Oval doing our training. I wasn't pressured but I guess deep inside I'm nervous. Aside from running my first 10K it was also our first time to run in Ortigas. It was really a pleasurable run for me. The race was not crowded at all, there was a lot of water stations offering tap water and "cold" Pocari (which by the way is my fave drink). I do believe that this is the most organized run event here in our country. Like others would say it "basta kay coach Rio the best!" The tie-up with Unilab made the run the ultimate event for us runners. Having so many exciting after run activities that we could participate in, runners are all scattered to check out what else is in store. There are a lot of booths around the event area, each one having their own relay game to challenge the runners. There is what they call the "Rest Nest"; I love the idea where you can freshen up after you run. Best part of it was when my husband won the raffle, he got an iPod NANO.

As always the route is challenging for me. Although I almost slipped because of some gravel along the route, luckily I manage to balance myself to prevent from falling and worst sprain my ankle. The only thing I was curious about is whether this run gives part of its earnings to a specific cause?

I signed up for my 6th 5K with the same familiar venue in Mall of Asia where I was quite comfortable running already. The route used is the same as the Rexona Run. Race started early which made us finish before the sun gets too hot. My in-laws also joined the 3K run because of the cause. There are a few who joined compared to other runs I've participated.

Running in less crowded event like this has so many advantages like the ease of space although motivation to run faster to race with other runners was low. I run continuously for 2K then decided to run/walk the rest of it. Tried playing my fave song in my head and everything but I was really not that motivated enough to run I guess because only few are running side by side with me. The encouragement came when I was nearing the finish line. Hearing people cheering runners to finish strong was a big help. So at the last right turn going to the finish I sprinted concentrating on my breathing and stride. Crossed strong but wishing I run the whole distance without taking walk breaks. I just want to mention that my bib number was 5050... Weird as it is but it reflects the effort I inserted on my run.

At last a run close to my heart. If you will remember I started running because of my husband's condition. Now finally this is it, a run for the benefit of people with diabetes. I would like to personally invite all of you to join us for a run or walk for this specific cause. See this ad for more details.

I read about some negative comments for this run like "there's no enough water" nor "the singlet is not nice" and the race result which according to others took a lot of time to be released. But as I was saying its for a cause that counts not what we can benefit from it. It's what we can contribute for the said advocacy. If it's true that the organizers are not that efficient in providing such things for the runners we might as well bring our own water to hydrate and probably wear another singlet thats comfortable for us to wear. As for the time that most runners are up to, if it's true just bring your own watch. This run is really not the organizers "thing" unlike the other races you've already know so don't expect much from it.

To follow: after running for this event I will give my insights about the after run with lots of photos...Maie Alvarezhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15952629169926498426noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9017709583464205825.post-34547050481720155802010-10-30T17:06:00.002+08:002010-10-31T09:22:43.869+08:00Running wishlistIt's a girl thing to be fashionable and comfortable shopping even for sports outfit and gears.
Walk first – If this will be your first time doing a cardiovascular exercise, do three 30-minute walks a week for two to three weeks.

Run/Walk – interspersing walk breaks lets you catch your breath and lessen the impact on your joints and muscles.

Run by the time – Runners love miles. For beginners you don’t have to worry about it yet. Running by time is easier. Building resistance should be your main priority for you to eventually run by miles.

Be consistent – Start by running three days a week. Doing it regularly will get you into your running shape.

Build up – slowly, consistently, in your own time. Rush the process and you could end up sore, frustrated, or injured. Just slowly increase your running time 20 percent a week.

Turning point – By this time you will notice you’re not as out of breath as before. You will likely to feeling running’s rewards – more energy, stronger body and a sense of accomplishment.

Endurance vs. Speed – You need to be able to cover a distance before you can cover it fast. Build 30 minutes of continues running before you work on your speed.

No pain, No gain – normal soreness should just last a day or two prior to workout but if the pain is like a sharp shooting sensation ice the area and take some extra rest until the pain subsides. IF the problem persists beyond a week, see a doctor.

Stability shoes like this one can help you prevent several running injuries associated with overpronation which include IT band syndrome, plantas fasciitis, shin splints, stress fractures, medial gastrocnemius strain, heel spur, ankle sprain, Achilles tendonitis and rupture, tarsal tunnel syndrome, tendonitis, and a host of other knee and even hip problems.

Just always remember before buying running shoes be sure to know exactly what kind of feet you have... The best way to know exactly what running shoes you need is to go to a running specialty store that offers gait analysis. You can find one at RUNNR store at bldg. B1 BHS, Taguig City. I get the chance to try it once since its for free. Knowing what kind of running shoes you'll need will surely give you more miles worthy of its price.

Maie Alvarezhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15952629169926498426noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9017709583464205825.post-36517979694946133892010-10-25T16:22:00.006+08:002010-10-31T09:43:29.174+08:00Races I have joined

NatGeo Earth Run 2010 (April 18, 2010) -- clocked 33:01 in the 3K distance.
